Synthesis and crystal and molecular structure of 1-ethylthio-2-(p-nitrophenyl)-2-(triphenylphosphonio)ethenethiolate

Abstract

Among the products of the reaction between p-nitrobenzylidenetriphenylphosphorane and CS2was 1-ethylthio-2-(p-nitrophenyl)-2-(triphenylphosphonio)ethenethiolate (9). The structure of (9) was assigned on the basis of an X-ray analysis, and its stereochemistry established. A mechanism for the formation of (9) is suggested. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c, Z= 4, a= 13.506(1), b= 10.134(4), c= 21.615(8)Å, β= 120.24(10)°. The structure was determined by direct methods from diffractometer data and refined to R 6.1% for 3 173 observed reflections.
