Hard-sphere fluid equation of state

Abstract

The following approximate closed-form representation of the fluid equation of state for hard sphere is proposed [graphic omitted] where D is the dimensionality and Bn are the virial coefficients in the expansion in powers of the density relative to close packing. Using the known virial coefficients up to m= 6 (or 7), the expression reproduces the exact (numerical) equation of state data with a greater accuracy than previous analytic and parametric forms in both two and three dimensions.
