Adsorption potential of H2 and N2 on 100 plane of a NaCl distorted lattice

Abstract

Adsorption potentials were calculated for H2 and N2 adsorbed on the 100 plane of a NaCl distorted lattice. Expressions were derived for the electrostatic potential, relying on distortion parameters given by Benson and co-workers, and using the Lennard-Jones–Dent method.

The results obtained indicate that corrections due to lattice distortion amount to 20 % for H2 and 25 % for N2, and the calculated heats of adsorption resemble more closely the experimental results.
