Kinetic study of the reaction of hydrogen atoms with chlorotrifluoromethane

Abstract

The reaction between hydrogen atoms and chlorotrifluoromethane has been studied in a discharge flow system using electron spin resonance detection of H atoms. The Arrhenius relation log (k/dm3 mol–1 s–1)=(10.23 ± 0.16)–[(36 800 ± 1900) J mol–1/2.303RT] was obtained for the rate constant of the initial step H + CF3Cl → HCl + CF3 over the temperature range 538–676 K. An approximate value for D(CF3—Cl) of 350 kJ mol–1 was estimated from the measured activation energy.
