Variation of electrical conductivity with composition in the system KNO3+ Ba(NO3)2 at constant equivalent volume
Abstract
The pressure dependence of electrical conductivity has been measured in the range 1–1000 bar at 396°C, for fused mixtures of KNO3 and Ba(NO3)2 containing 0–22 equiv. % Ba(NO3)2. The thermal pressure coefficient (∂p/∂T)V has also been measured. From the results, the variation of conductivity with composition at constant temperature and constant equivalent volume has been calculated. Under these conditions, conductivity increases as Ba2+ is substituted for 2K+. At constant pressure, a similar substitution leads to a fall in conductivity, since it is accompanied by a reduction in the equivalent volume.
