Composition and stability of the dimer tetra-acetatodichromium(II): a spectrophotometric study

Abstract

The monomer–dimer equilibrium in solutions of chromium(II) acetate has been investigated by spectrophotometric and solubility measurements. The principal dimeric species in solution is [Cr2(O2CMe)4]. The equilibrium constant for [Cr2(O2CMe)2] 2Cr(O2CMe)2 is log KDO=–4.35, and for Cr2++ 2MeCO2 Cr(O2CMe)2 is log β2= 1.70, at 25 °C and ionic strength 1.0 mol dm–3(Na[ClO4]).
