Investigations of the mechanism of recrystallization the example of sodium chloride crystals
Abstract
Two series of experiments were conducted in an investigation of the mechanism of recrystallization in NaCl + acetone + water and NaCl + ethyl alcohol + water systems. A new technique is introduced, for measuring radioactivity in systems consisting of both solid and volatile liquid phases.
In both series it was found that the recrystallization of the NaCl crystals is accompanied by an extended mass transfer. The experimental results lead to the conclusion that recrystallization is effected by dissolution and redeposition.
