Photocyclisation of enamides. Part VIII. Synthesis of 13-methylberbines; total synthesis of (±)-cavidine

Abstract

Photocyclisation of 2-aroyl-1-ethylidene-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines, which exist in two geometric forms, provides a useful route to various 13-methylberbines, as exemplified by the first total synthesis of (±)-cavidine.
