A rearrangement of 4β,5β-epoxy-6α-hydroxyandrostan-17β-yl acetate

Abstract

4β,5β-Epoxy-6α-hydroxy- and 2α,3α-epoxy-6β-hydroxy-androstan-17β-yl acetates have been prepared. Both gave 4-methyloestratrien-17β-yl acetate on treatment with hydrobromic acid in glacial acetic acid. The former also gave 6-oxoandrost-4-en-17β-yl acetate.
