Contribution of pre-adsorbed species to the difference spectrum of species subsequently adsorbed

Abstract

In determining the spectrum of adsorbed species, care must be taken either to eliminate all pre-adsorbed species, or in the interpretation of the data, since pre-adsorbed species will in general contribute to the difference spectrum of species subsequently adsorbed. Data illustrating this phenomenon, as well as a theoretical explanation of it, are presented.
