Crystal structure of tetracaesium octaisothiocyanatouranate(IV)

Abstract

The structure of Cs4[U(NCS)8] has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods from diffractometer data on 845 reflections and refined to R 0.06. Crystals are tetragonal, space group P4/n with a0= 11.958(6), c0= 11.170(6)Å, Z= 2. The two sets of four nitrogen atoms co-ordinated to the uranium atom [at distances of 2.38(3) and 2.46(3)Å, respectively] are arranged at the vertices of an almost perfect square antiprism. The results are discussed in relation to the structure of [NEt4]4[U(NCS)8] and spectral data for both compounds.
