The biosynthesis of reticuline

Abstract

Tracer experiments prove that dopa contributes only to the formation of the phenethylamine portion of reticuline in Litsea glutinosa and that the benzylic portion is biosynthesised from 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpyruvic acid not derived from dopa.
