The oxidation of 3-acetyl-, 3-carboxamido-, and 3-ethoxycarbonyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridines occurs readily, resulting in the formation of dimeric products based on the furo[2,3-b;5,4-b′]dipyridine ring system.
