Methylseleno-derivatives of Group IV. Part II. Hydrides

Abstract

The following methylseleno-derivatives of Group IV hydrides, SiH3·SeMe, SiH2(SeMe)2, MeSiH2·SeMe, GeH3·SeMe, MeGeH2·SeMe, and Me2GeH·SeMe have been fully characterised by cleavage reactions and 1H n.m.r. and vibrational spectroscopy. The silanes were prepared from lithium tetramethylselenoaluminate and the germanes by exchange reactions involving methylseleno(trimethyl)silane. A full assignment of the i.r. and Raman spectra, supported by normal co-ordinate analyses, is presented for MH3SeMe.
