The true magnitude of the hydrophobic rate enhancements obtainable from hydrocarbon alkyl chain contacts in aqueous solutions

Abstract

Rate enhancements attributable to hydrophobic interaction of linear alkyl groups with a steroidal enzyme model have been measured and are much smaller than the values reported previously for less well defined enzyme model systems, but are in satisfactory agreement with independent evaluations of these interactions.
