Crystal and molecular structure of a novel bimetallocarborane anion

Abstract

The bimetallocarborane, [Et4N][(η-C5H5)-Co-C2B8H10-Co-C2B8H10], which was prepared by the poly-hedral expansion of 1,6-C2B8H10 at –80°, was studied by single-crystal diffraction techniques; the anion was found to contain a bimetallic Co2C2B8H10 unit in which one cobalt atom was shared with a terminal C2B8H10 group.
