The kinetics and machanism of the electrophilic substitution of heteroaromatic compounds. Part XXXI. The standardisation of acid catalysed hydrogen exchange rates

Abstract

It is suggested that k0(100°) at pH = 0 should be used for correlations of hydrogen exchange rates. A procedure for obtaining these k0 values is given involving successive determination of (A)k(stoich)T°; (B)k(stoich)T° at pH = 0; (C)k(stoich)(100°) at pH = 0; (D) correction for minority species reaction; and (E) correction for isotope effects. This procedure is applied to available data.
