Interaction of gases with ionic melts. Solubility of carbon dioxide and ammonia in molten alkali-metal nitrates

Abstract

Solubilities of carbon dioxide (pressure 1 bar) and ammonia (pressure 0.1–0.4 bar) were determined in several (Li,K) and (Na,K) nitrate solvents in the temperature range 470–670 K and the relevant thermodynamic parameters calculated. The dissolution processes appear to be largely influenced by the solute–solvent interaction energy.
