Studies in H2O + D2O media. Part 1.—Kinetics of tritium exchange between trimethyoxybenzene and aqueous perchloric acid in H2O + D2O mixtures: re-evaluation of the deuterium fractionation factor for the aqueous hydrogen ion

Abstract

The kinetics of the hydrogen exchange reaction between 1,3,5-trimethoxy[2-3H]benzene and aqueous 0.05 M perchloric acid in H2O + D2O mixtures have been studied. The results are used to calculate the value for the isotopic fractionation of the hydrogen ion (l). Nine other systems already reported are similarly treated and a probable value for l is given as 0.72 ± 0.01.
