t-Butylberyllium-alkyls and -aryls: amine complexes and pyrolysis to hydrides
Abstract
Dimethylberyllium dissolves in di-t-butylberyllium giving the liquid trimer (ButBeMe)3. Other t-butylberyllium alkyls and aryls prepared are the dimers (ButBeR)2, R = Et, o-tolyl, and p-xylyl. The cyclopentadienyl derivatives, C5H5BeR (R = But or C6F5), are monomeric. Pyrolysis of ButBeR (R = Me, o-tolyl, and m-tolyl) yields the benzene-insoluble hydrides, RBeH, characterized as amine complexes.
The NNN′N′-tetramethylethylenediamine (tmed) complexes of ButBeR (R =o- and p-tolyl or C6F5) are described. Other complexes prepared include (Me3SiCH2)2Be,tmed, (o-tolyl)2Be, quinuclidine, and the tetrahydrofuran complexes of di-t-butylberyllium and of bispentafluorophenylberyllium. t-Butylberyllium chloride is insoluble in benzene, but can be sublimed; its quinuclidine complex is insoluble in benzene.
