Stereospecific reaction of olefins with sulphur trioxide—dioxan

Abstract

The reaction of cis- and trans-but-2-ene with sulphur trioxide–dioxan proceeds stereospecifically yielding cis- and trans-2,3-butanesultone, respectively, as initial sulphonation products.
