The synthesis of [Mo(CNR)7]X2(R = Me, X = I–; R = But, X = PF6–, I3–) compounds from Mo(CO)6 or Ag4[Mo(CN)8] is described; conductivity and spectral data suggest the presence of seven-co-ordinate molybdenum(II) dication in solution.
