Reaction of cycloheptatriene with ruthenium carbonyl: X-ray crystallographic determination of the molecular structure of Ru3(CO)6(C7H7)(C7H9)

Abstract

Cycloheptatriene reacts with dodecacarbonyl-triruthenium to give inter alia a fluxional complex Ru3(CO)6(C7H7)(C7H9)(I), an X-ray diffraction study of which reveals that the C7H7 ring bridges two of the ruthenium atoms whereas the C7H9 ring is attached to the remaining metal atom as a cycloheptadienyl ligand.
