Reactions of cyclopentadiene with carbonyl-ruthenium and -osmium complexes: formation of carbonyl-metal hydrides

Abstract

The reaction of cyclopentadiene with Ru3(CO)12 yields Ru(π-C5H5)(CO)2(H) quantitatively, via intermediate formation of Ru(2–5-η-cyclopentadiene)(CO)3; hydrides M(π-C5H5)(CO)2(H)(M = Ru, Os) are similarly formed from H4Ru4(CO)12 and H2Os3(CO)10.
