Quasiclassical theory of inner-sphere electron transfer reactions in polar media

Abstract

On the basis of a previously developed general theory of electron transfer reactions in polar media, expressions for the energy of activation for inner-sphere electron transfer reactions have been obtained, using a classical approximation for the intramolecular and solvent degrees of freedom. Using the hard-sphere approximation for ions in solution, and taking into account the frequency dispersion of the dielectric permittivity, satisfactory agreement with experimental data is found.
