Raman spectral study of bisulphate ion hydration
Abstract
Raman spectra of solutions of H2SO4, NH4HSO4 and LiHSO4 over a wide concentration range, were obtained. Pronounced asymmetry was found in the 1050 cm–1 bisulphate ion line for all solutions more dilute than 6 M. Analysis of the data, using a minimum of assumptions yields an interpretation of the spectra which differs in several respects from previous ones, and suggests that two differently hydrated forms of the HSO–4 ion exist.
