Magnetic exchange interaction in the Ti2Cl 3–9 anion
Abstract
The general theory of magnetic exchange interaction between two atoms with orbitally degenerate wavefunctions has been applied to the interaction of two Ti(III) ions in the Ti2Cl3–9 anion. The treatment was numerical rather than algebraic so the magnitudes of the various perturbations could be varied over a wide range. It was possible to obtain excellent agreement with the experimental magnetic susceptibility for the Ti2Cl3–9 anion over the temperature range 90 to 300 K.
