Electrocrystallization of ruthenium and electrocatalysis of hydrogen evolution

Abstract

The kinetics of the electrodeposition of ruthenium on vitreous carbon and the accompanying hydrogen evolution reaction has been investigated. Two mechanisms are proposed for the electro-crystallization of growth centres of ruthenium; the catalytic hydrogen evolution is shown to depend on the size of the catalyst centres and mechanisms for this reaction are also suggested.
