Thermodynamics of the interactions of catechol with transition metals. Part III. The effect of 4-chloro- and 4-nitro-substitution on proton and metal catechol complex formation

Abstract

The effect on proton and metal complex formation of substitution of chloro- and nitro-groups in the catechol 4-position has been investigated by potentiometric, calorimetric, and spectrophotometric methods with 0·100M-KNO3 as background electrolyte at 25 °C. Thermodynamic quantities for complex formation have been determined and some interpretation of the effect of substitution on bonding has been made.
