Transition-metal complexes of NNNNNN‴-hexamethyl-3,6-diazaoctane-1,8-diamine. Part I. Nickel(II) and copper(II) compounds

Abstract

A series of compounds have been prepared of general formula M(trien)X2(trien =NNNNNN‴-hexamethyl-3, 6-diazaoctane-1,8-diamine) for M = NiII, X = Cl, Br, NO3, SCN, ClO4, or BPh4; for M = CuII, X = Br, SCN, ½SO4, ClO4, BPh4. The i.r. and electronic spectra, the magnetic moments, and the conductivites of the compounds have been recorded and used to elucidate their structure; nickel compounds with X = Cl, Br, NO3, and SCN are octahedral, with X = ClO4 and BPh4 square planar; copper compounds are five-co-ordinate with exception for X = ClO4 and BPh4.
