The nature of the αβ-process in palladium-catalysed multiple exchange reactions of polycyclic hydrocarbons with deuterium: significance of bridgehead olefin stability

Abstract

The ease with which multiple exchange reactions of polycyclic hydrocarbons with deuterium, catalysed by palladium, propagate through bridgehead positions is related to the stability of the appropriate bridgehead olefin, indicating that the αβ-process in exchange involves interconversion of a σ-bonded metal alkyl and a π-bonded metal alkene.
