Detection and lifetime of the triplet state of acetone in solution

Abstract

The absorption spectrum of triplet acetone has been observed in acetonitrile and in aqueous solutions. Rate constants of decay, energy transfer to hexadienol and reaction with cyclohexane have been determined. A possible mechanism is suggested to explain the rapid radiationless triplet decay.
