Densities of alkali metal chloride + zinc chloride melts

Abstract

Density measurements have been made on the MCl + ZnCl2(M = Li, Na, K, Cs) systems over the temperature range from the liquidus to 600°C. A change in slope of the (density, temperature) relation is found for pure ZnCl2 at 370°C. Mixtures, except in the dilute region, show completely linear temperature dependence of density. The results are interpreted in terms of the effect of the alkali metal chloride on the structure of the ZnCl2 melt.
