The chemistry of fungi. Part LXIII. Rubrorotiorin, a metabolite of Penicillium hirayamae Udagawa
Abstract
In addition to (–)-sclerotiorin, Penicillium hirayamae Udagawa elaborates a laevoratory, red pigment, rubrorotiorin, C23H23ClO5, which has been identified as 7-epi-5-chloroisorotiorin by degradation and by synthesis. Rubrorotiorin is the first naturally occurring angular member of the sclerotiorin (azaphilone) group of fungal metabolites to be characterised.
