Photolysis and rearrangement reactions of α-bromophenacyl 'onium salts
Abstract
α-Bromophenacyldimethylsulphonium and the corresponding quaternary ammonium salts have been prepared. The sulphonium salt disproportionates in a dark reaction and photolysis causes C–S bond breakage. The ammonium salt does not disproportionate; on irradiation C–Br cleavage occurs, giving a ring-brominated rearrangement product.
