Seco-steroids. Part II. 9,11-Secoprogesterone

Abstract

The title compound has been synthesised from 9-dehydroprogesterone. Hydroxy-groups at C-9 and C-11 in a 9,11-seco-intermediate were replaced with hydrogen atoms by desulphurisation of a bisphenylthio-derivative made via the dimesylate. 9-Dehydroprogesterone can be selectively ozonised in ring C.
