Alternative preparative methods are described for the cycloheptatrienylidenecyclohexadienones (I; R = But) and (II) and the furano-(III) and tricarbonylchromium derivatives (XV; R = But) have been synthesised. Some reactions and properties of these compounds are described, including nucleophilic addition to the seven-membered ring of (I; R = But).
