Studies on ferrocene derivatives. Part X. Reaction of acetylferrocene with methylmagnesium iodide and of ferrocenyl alcohols with Grignard reagents

Abstract

The reactions of acetylferrocene and 2-ferrocenylpropan-2-ol with methylmagnesium iodide in benzene–ether yield 2-ferrocenylpropene, t-butylferrocene, cyclopentadienyl-(1-ferrocenyl-1,3,3-trimethylindanyl)iron (2), 2,4-ferrocene-1,1′-diyl-2-ferrocenyl-4-methylpentane (3), 2,4-diferrocenyl-4-methylpent-2-ene, and 2,4-diferrocenyl-4-methylpent-1-ene. The reactions of some ferrocenyl alcohols with various Grignard reagents afford ferrocenyl alkanes.
