Ultraviolet irradiation of α-aryloxyacetones (Ar·O·CH2·COMe; Ar = 3,5-xylyl,m-chlorophenyl, and 2,6-dimethoxyphenyl) in methanol, ethanol, or benzyl alcohol yielded the corresponding dimethyl, diethyl, or dibenzyl acetals respectively.
