The temperature dependence of the n.m.r. spectrum of two compounds containing t-butyl groups is reported. The effect of the rate of rotation of the t-butyl group on the spectrum is computed. Computed and experimental spectra are matched at several temperatures and the barrier to rotation of the t-butyl group is calculated. Problems in the experimental technique and in matching spectra are discussed.
