Transition metal–carbon bonds. Part XXVIII. Oxidative addition reactions of the complexes [PtMe2(rac-diars)] and [PtMe2(meso-diars)]. Preparation of [PdX2(rac-diars)] and [PdX2(meso-diars)], (X = Cl, Br, or I; diars = PhMeAsCH2CH2AsMePh)
Abstract
The complexes [MX2(rac-diars)] and [MX2(meso-diars)][M = Pd or Pt; X = Cl, Br, or I; diars = PhMeAsCH2·CH2·AsMePh] have been prepared. The complexes [PtMe2(rac-diars)] or [PtMe2(meso-diars)] are shown to undergo oxidative-addition reactions to give complexes of the type [PtXRMe2(rac-diars)] or [PtXRMe2(meso-diars)], respectively. Acetyl halides give trans-adducts (R = Ac) whereas allyl chloride gives cis-adducts (R = allyl). Additions to [PtMe2(meso-diars)] are stereospecific in all cases (R = Me, COMe, or allyl). The stereochemistries follow from the 1H n.m.r. and i.r. data.
