Heat of dilution of polymer solutions. Part III. The influence of excess volume of dilution
Abstract
A simple direct method has been employed to measure the excess volumes of dilution of polymer solutions. The variation of the excess volume of dilution with molecular weight is reported for the polystyrene–toluene system and solvent-dependence for poly(methyl methacrylate)–solvent systems. The results are discussed in relation to published work on the heats of dilution of these systems and current theories of polymer solutions.
