Studies on the temperature dependence in the 1H n.m.r. spectra of some methylcyclopentadienyl metal compounds

Abstract

The temperature dependence (+20 to –95°) of the 1H n.m.r. spectra of the compounds Sn(MeC5H4)4 and Hg(MeC5H4)2 has been determined and the data is interpreted in terms of rapidly exchanging fluxional σ-bonded systems. The spectra (+20 to –95°) of the compounds Au(PPh3)(RC5H4)(R = H or Me) in 2-methyltetrahydrofuran are also consistent with there being fluxional σ-bonded RC5H4 rings.
