Nuclear magnetic resonance studies on fluorine-containing compounds. Part V. Reactions of tantalum pentafluoride with organic donor molecules

Abstract

The results of a spectroscopic study on the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes of tantalum pentafluoride with organic ligands are presented and discussed in terms of the known behaviour of the analogous niobium complexes, and in terms of the different magnetic properties of the niobium and tantalum nuclei. The n.m.r. spectra of the Group Va MF6 ions are interpreted in terms of the various factors important in determining the appearance of an n.m.r. multiplet.
