Studies in cyclophosphazenes. Part II. The kinetics of the reactions of chlorocyclotriphosphazenes with dimethylamine in tetrahydrofuran

Abstract

The kinetics of the reactions of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and dimethylaminopentachlorocyclotriphosphazene with dimethylamine in tetrahydrofuran were studied at various temperatures. The reactions obeyed a second-order rate law. Rate constants and activation parameters are presented. A mechanism involving an intermediate formed in a rapid pre-equilibrium is suggested. This intermediate subsequently decomposes in an entropy of activation-controlled rate-determining dehydrochlorination.
