Co-ordination numbers of cyanide complexes of zinc, cadmium, and mercury in aqueous solution
Abstract
Published evidence for the existence of mononuclear complexes of zinc, cadmium, and mercury containing more than four cyanide ligands is critically appraised and shown to be inconsistent. Infrared spectroscopy is used to show conclusively that the maximum number of cyanide ligands is four for molar ratios of cyanide to metal ion of up to 10.
