Some oxidative elimination reactions of zerovalent osmium complexes

Abstract

Tetrafluoroethylene, trifluoroethylene, and chlorotrifluoroethylene react on irradiation with trans-Os(CO)3-[(MeO)3P]2 to afford the complexes Os[fluoro-olefin](CO)2[(MeO)3P]2, where the phosphite ligands have a relative cis-configuration. In contrast, trans-Os(CO)3(PhPMe2)2 reacts with trifluoroethylene to give Os[C2F3H](CO)2(PhPMe2)2 where the phosphine groups have a relative trans-configuration. The corresponding reactions with hexafluoroacetone gives [graphic omitted](CO)2(PhPMe2)2. Reaction of Os(CF3C2CF3)(CO)2[(MeO)3P]2 with HCl gives OsCl[C(CF3)= C(CF3)H](CO)2[(MeO)3P]2. The reaction of iodine with trans-Os(CO)3(PhPMe2)2 is described.
