New fluoride complexes derived from the interaction of liquid hydrogen fluoride with zerovalent and divalent complexes of platinum and palladium
Abstract
The complexes [PtF(PRPh2)3][HF2](R = Ph or Me) have been prepared by reactions of liquid hydrogen fluoride with Pt(PRPh2)4. Metathetical reactions between [PtF(PPh3)3][HF2] and sodium tetraphenylborate or lithium tetrafluoroborate give the salts, [PtF(PPh3)3][BX4](X = Ph or F) but with lithium perchlorate a fluorine-bridged dimer, [PtF(PPh3)2]2[ClO4]2, is obtained. A similar palladium complex, [PdF(PPh3)2]2F2, has been obtained from the action of liquid hydrogen fluoride upon Pd(PPh3)4. The complexes cis-PtYF(PPh3)2(Y = Cl or Br) have been isolated from the reaction of liquid hydrogen fluoride with PtY2(PPh3)2; PtClF(PPh3)2 may also be obtained using trans-PtClH(PPh3)2. All the complexes have been characterised by conductivity measurements and i.r. spectra.
The action of either lithium chloride or methylene chloride upon these complexes results in displacement of fluoride to give platinum chloride complexes.
