The infrared spectra of metal carbonyl compounds. Part IV. [13C]-and [18O]-substitution in metal carbonyls

Abstract

Carbon [18O]monoxide- and [13C]carbon monoxide-enriched CoCl2(CO)(PEt3)2 have been prepared and the isotopic shift in the CO stretching frequency recorded. The observed frequency shifts are very similar (44·2 and 44·7 cm–1 respectively). An interpretation of this observation which considers the effect of coupling the C–O stretching mode with the M–C stretching mode, is given.
