Reactions of phosphorus compounds: reaction of phosphoranes with carbonyl reagents to produce olefins via vinylphosphonium salt intermediates

Abstract

The preparation of olefins from phosphoranes (Ph3P[double bond, length as m-dash]CHR1), with one α-proton, and carbonyl (R2R3C[double bond, length as m-dash]O) reagents is accomplished via vinylphosphonium salts when the reaction is run in alcoholic solvent.
